When my sister found out she was pregnant I realized I could sew a bunch of cute baby clothes, so I started with this little set. The bias tape is a little too stiff for my liking, but it's all I had on hand and I wasn't going to drive an hour to the fabric store to get something else when I was on a roll and ready to finish.

My sister loved it and I'm excited to make more things for the little critter in the future.

I got the itch to start sewing again and decided I wanted to make matching Renaissance Fair outfits for me and my boyfriend. So he and I sat down and came up with some Renaissance inspired costumes together. Here's the original drawing for what we planned:

Since my first pair of pockets are no longer with us (RIP) I decided to make a second pair for my Renaissance fair costume this year. I had a bunch of scraps left over from the project, so I figured creating patchwork pockets would be a nice way to use them up. I have a black pair of pirate pants I bought at a Renaissance Festival a few years back and I wanted to try and recreate them. This was my attempt to use the basic pattern with some edits to make 18th century inspired slops.

I'm not sure I'd call it a success, since I think I went wrong somewhere leading to the crotch/bottom bunching up in a way that irritates my sensory issues, but I think they're really cute for pictures at least.

Before making my first complete kit, I had an event to go to but still hadn't made a jacket for myself. So my friend Anthea, who got me into the hobby, let me borrow one of hers. I altered it to fit me better with basting stitches for the day, and it worked wonderfly. I still think this outfit is my favorite I've worn. That apron became a staple in my collection, and I love how easy it is to get the full 18th century silhouette with a quilted petticoat. Both are items I'd like to remake for myself, even though the quilted petticoat is rarely practical to wear in Florida.

This was my first "real" 18th century outfit I made myself without borrowing items from other people. Looking back, the jacket was fantastic, but the apron was way too tiny and the cotton for the skirt a bit too thick and bright. I am very impressed with myself making the stripe pattern symmetrical on both sides of the jacket though.

Still, it was so much fun to wear while walking around colonial Williamsburg. I used this JP Ryan pattern for the jacket, and while it and the jacket were destroyed in the flood, I love it so much I'm tempted to repurchase it and make another one. I'm just so charmed by the swallow tail design.

Here’s the first pair of 18th century pockets I sewed. I designed the embroidery based on historic examples of floral patterns. It’s the only art piece I’ve ever had displayed in an art show, which was very exciting.

Unfortunately this pair of pockets, like most of my possessions, was destroyed in hurricane Helene. But I’m happy to report that before their destruction they were deeply loved and were used for every reenacting event I went to and every 18th century school tour I gave for several years!

Back in 2015 I wanted to design a character inspired by carnival sideshows in the 1930s and landed on this creation of Charles the Strong Man.

I decided that I wanted to try and bring him to life in the form of a doll. Now, I'd never made a doll before, but figured it would be a fun experiement, and while I ran into problems along the way and it didn't end up looking the way I'd hoped, I was still happy with how he turned out. Considering I'd never embroidered anything before and followed exactly zero tutorials, I'd say I did pretty dang good.
