I got the itch to start sewing again and decided I wanted to make matching Renaissance Fair outfits for me and my boyfriend. So he and I sat down and came up with some Renaissance inspired costumes together. Here's the original drawing for what we planned:

And here's how our outfits turned out together:

Some adjustments were made as I went along, but overall it matches the vision well and I'm very happy with how they turned out. I've worn it to two Renfairs so far and I'm sure I'll wear it to more of them. It's funny, I made an 18th century shift and petticoat for it, so I can totally use those again for reenacting, along with the patchwork pockets I made. The apron, while adorable, won't be used for reenacting though as it is polyester. It is the only polyester thing in the whole getup though. I wasn't gonna put me and my boyfriend in layers of polyester clothes in the Florida heat. He was very appreciative.

Here's some more photos of my costume:

This shows off the 16th century cap I made for myself. It's historically accurate, and I think the lace detail just brings it together.

Here you can see the patchwork pocket peeking through! They were just too adorable to hide under my skirts.

This image is from when I put the final touches together and was deciding if I should wear the skirts hiked up or not. I decided it was more interesting to show the petticoat underneath, so I did end up wearing it that way. So while the stripes I added to the skirt aren't very visible from the front, they look cute from the back. The idea to add the stripes came from photos I saw of Trossfrau dresses. If I lived in a climate cold enough to make a whole wool ensemble like that, I'd absolutely do it, but for now I'll just take a bit of inspiration from it.
